Member of the UK Youth Parliament for Portsmouth

This is a copy of a statement from Portsmouth Youth Voice, archived after their website closed.

Unfortunately Portsmouth Youth Voice is no longer taking part in the UK Youth Parliament programme. Over the last few years, local authorities (like Portsmouth City Council) have had to look closely at how they are spending taxpayers' money. Unfortunately Portsmouth City Council have chosen to reduce Portsmouth Youth Voice's budget meaning we can no longer afford to have an MYP.

The UK Youth Parliament programme requires the local authority (Portsmouth City Council) and the local youth council (us) to run elections and take part in a series of events throughout the year. Both of these cost money.

The members of Portsmouth Youth Voice decided, in consultation with Portsmouth City Council and the British Youth Council (who run UKYP), to withdraw from the programme. This will allow us to use what remains of our budget to achieve our aims in Portsmouth. We would like to thank the British Youth Council for their support in making this decision.

We hope that one day we will be able to afford to take part in the UK Youth Parliament again.
