From his start as a member of Portsmouth City Council’s own youth council to taking on the role of County Youth Rep for Hampshire Scouts, Peter has dedicated my life to giving young people a voice. It is a passion and dedication which saw him be presented with a Civic Award by The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth.
While managing Portsmouth City Council’s youth council, Peter explored innovative ways of supplementing constantly reducing local authority funding. By building sustainable partnerships, he gave young people in the city the opportunity to make their voices heard within key organisations such as Portsmouth’s volunteer bureau and the city’s strategic public-private planning group.
Peter has spent years perfecting the best to consult with young people, still working with a variety of young people every week.
No matter how complex the consultation you want to run, Peter has the experience to make it work. He even produced a young person’s version of Portsmouth City Council’s budget consultation!
From simple focus groups, to street stalls, to full scale public consultations, Peter is here to guide you every step of the way.
Local Authority Programmes
These programmes are ideal for local authorities and public bodies who want to engage young people in their work without having the time commitment and expense of running a full youth council.
Ask Your Council
Ask Your Council events give school children and college students the chance to ask representatives of major political parties the questions that matter to them.
The Youth Voice Awards
The Youth Voice Awards is a perfect way of celebrating the people who work towards a youth-shaped society.
Both of these programmes can be run in a short time and require minimal investment of time and resources to make successful.
How Will They Vote
In June 2016 the United Kingdom voted on its membership of the European Union. Peter worked with Portsmouth Youth Voice to contact local councillors and ask their views to support a national Get Out The Vote campaign for 18 - 25-year-olds.
From local authority youth councils to school councils, and Scout youth forums to charity youth panels, Peter has supported a wide range of youth involvement initiatives through creation, development, operation, and legacy.
Whatever stage your youth council or forum is at, Peter can offer the support and guidance needed to make sure your programmes are effective and delivering the best possible outcomes for young people and funders.
As a County Youth Rep for Hampshire Scouts, Peter is fully committed to The Scouts’ aim to get at least 250,000 young people shaping their Scouting experience by 2023. He enjoys seeing young people, across the county, enjoy their Scouting journey and is happy to come to any Scout event in the UK to see young people getting involved, having fun, and gaining Skills for Life.
Young Charity Trustees
Peter has held numerous trusteeships since he turned 18 - starting right on his 18th birthday. He has seen first hand the benefit that having young people on boards of trustees can have. Peter is ready to help your charity find the right young people to take on this vital role and help safeguard the longevity and legacy of your organisation’s amazing work.
